By air – service to main Scottish airports with connections to UK and Europe – flights
from Aberdeen in fast, modern and comfortable aircraft takes under an hour with
British Airways. (Widerøe Airlines also operate a speedy summer connection
between Norway and Shetland.) Sumburgh Airport is located on the south side
of the main island and is half and hour from the capital, Lerwick, by taxi
or car.
Alternatively, there is an inexpensive bus connection with beautiful scenery
all the way.
